The campus newspaper Harvard Crimson, in an attempt to deny reality, published a piece informing conservatives that they are not welcome at Harvard. The Crimson wrote, “If you think Harvard is a revolutionary communist hotbed, don’t apply. If you think Harvard is full of “pinheaded” professors, don’t enroll. And if you think Harvard pollutes the minds of its students, don’t walk out of here with a degree–and certainly don’t get two.”
The Crimson then lambasts three famous alumni of the school, Senator Ted Cruz, Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly, and Mitt Romney, for remarks they have made suggesting that Harvard has a liberal bias. Who knew?
Cruz had said that when he was a student at Harvard, there were “Marxists who believed in…overthrowing the United States government.” Dan McLaughlin at Redstate.com, who attended Harvard Law School concurrent with Cruz, attests that Cruz has solid ground to stand on.
Bill O’Reilly called Harvard professors “pinheaded” and implied that Harvard was morally unhinged by condoning Harvard College Munch, a club that met because they liked kinky sex. Apparently the Crimson champions kinks sex as a morally mainstream activity. (Imagine their Christmas party!) Romney suggested Barack Obama had spent too much time at Harvard. You mean the Crimson thinks Obama isn’t a wild-eyed Marxist? That alone indicates they are myopic beyond belief.
The Crimson bloviates:
Such episodes of treachery are apparently attempts to curry favor with the more anti-intellectual members of our body politic. Yet it is finally time that we say enough is enough. We at The Crimson urge anyone who plans on one day scoring political points by maligning Harvard to neither apply, enroll, nor graduate from this fine institution . . .
If we could have spoken to these three young men, we could have spared them from the fear and anguish that must come part-and-parcel with seeing oneself as instructed by insurrectionists or buffoons. If we could have spoken to these three men, we would have told them never to come to Cambridge.
Of course. Just as their anointed leader in the White House, the Crimson doesn’t like it when its moral and intellectual credentials are mocked. Just as their anointed leader, they don’t like free speech when it challenges them. And just as their anointed leader, they want their opposition to vanish silently into the night.
