In its ever-evolving quest to turn the presidency into a permanent campaign organ rather than the executive branch of government, the Obama White House will be launching yet another in its endless series of public relations pushes in the aftermath of Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday evening. The White House will be showing graphics and data – or at least their version of data – during the State of the Union on the White House website.
Meanwhile, the “unrelated” campaign organ of the White House, Organizing for Action (which still carries the Obama campaign logo), will be pushing out White House talking points. Those talking points will be accompanied by calls for “national days of action” in February and March.
Obama will then take off for a tour around the country to promote his agenda and avoid all effort at implementing it. But Obama’s goal isn’t to implement his agenda. It’s to continue his neverending attempt to paint his political opponents as morally bankrupt, as obstructionist roadblocks to his glorious agenda.
Nothing will get done. But minds will be changed. And President Obama understands, better than any modern politician, that changing the narrative is far more important than changing policy.
