As the day on which Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) “assault weapon” ban will be introduced draws closer, another troubling aspect of it has come to light – namely, that it will give new funding and expanded powers to the ATF for the purpose of registering all guns and gun owners in the country.

In other words, in addition to banning “assault weapons” and handguns like Glocks, Sig Sauers, Smith & Wesson M&Ps, and H&Ks, the legislation will also empower the ATF to be sure every gun is placed on a government registry.

The version of the legislation which Feinstein has already released to the public makes this crystal clear in the section that “requires grandfathered weapons to be registered under the National Firearms Act.” There it says the legislation will include “dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration.”

This is but one more proof of the incremental drive behind this latest gun control push.

The “assault weapon” ban has already been expanded to an “assault weapon” and semi-auto handgun ban. And once a major public crime is committed with a gun not on the ban list, other classes of weapons will be added to the ban, or the government will embark on a system of confiscation — the implementation of which will be made easier by the fact that they will have a registry that tells them the name of every gun owner and lists every gun associated with that owner, should Feinstein’s legislation pass.

Keep this in mind: The guns Adam Lanza used to commit his crime were registered to his mother. But that did nothing to deter him from carrying out his heinous acts. It won’t deter crime on the national level either. The only thing registration will do is make it easier for gun-grabbers to start grabbing when they think the time is right.
