FL Activist Puts Up 'Festivus Pole' of Beer Cans Next to Nativity Scene

An “activist blogger” in Florida has decided to put up a “Festivus pole” made of aluminum Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans, which celebrates atheism, next to a Nativity scene.

The Festivus pole is a reference to a fictional December 23 “atheist holiday” on the television show Seinfeld. On the show, the characters celebrated the holiday by reflecting on the past year’s disappointments and airing grievances. 

Chaz Stevens, the blogger, said he has wanted Deerfield Beach, Florida to get rid of the Nativity scene, and he decided this year to “push back a little” to express his own beliefs because so “many people have died over the years to give us our freedoms.”

“It’s just 23 beer cans stacked 8 feet high and conveniently located 6 feet from Baby Jesus,” Stevens said. 

In addition to the “Festivus pole,” the Nativity scene also features a Menorah.
