DOJ, Republicans Will Meet over Fast & Furious Documents

The Department of Justice and House Republicans will meet in the very near future to discuss the latter’s access to documents related to Operation Fast and Furious, the gun-walking scheme that allowed over 2,000 guns to land in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

“We are prepared to sit down and discuss the possibility of reaching an amicable resolution,” said Kerry Kircher, the attorney representing the House Oversight Committee.

In August, the Republicans filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder to release emails within the DOJ after February 4, 2011, the day they submitted a letter to Congress that was filled with faulty information about Fast & Furious.

The DOJ insists the documents in question do not show any intention of deliberately lying to Congress. However, the Republicans believe the documents will help them understand what caused the DOJ to submit a letter full of so many inaccuracies.

Fast and Furious weapons are linked to the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and over 300 Mexican citizens. Hundreds are still missing.
