Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has advice for Republicans after their big defeat on Election Day — to abandon their pro-life base. Following an election campaign in which the taxpayer-funded organization spent $15 million tearing down Republican candidates who vowed to cut off its federal funding, Richards now says she is reaching out to pro-choice Republicans.
In an interview in The Huffington Post, Richards said, “Back in the olden days, the Republican Party was the party that supported people’s individual rights and keeping government out of personal health care decisions, so I think there’s a history they can go back to.” She advised, “There’s a clear pathway to [win back women’s support], and it’s to listen to the middle of their party instead of the extreme fringe.”
Richards seems representative of many liberal Democrats in her lack of logic across situations. She argues that being pro-life is contrary to “supporting people’s individual rights and keeping government out of personal health care decisions,” but she apparently assumes that Catholics and Christians who oppose funding for abortion have no individual rights to oppose government’s intervention in their personal decisions of conscience.
Though Richards implies that women, in general, were supportive of President Obama’s pro-abortion platform, the fact is that Mitt Romney won the support of married women, 53-46%. Obama won about two-thirds of the single women’s vote, a group that is largely composed of lower-income women who require government programs for daily support.
Realistically, then, there is no need for Republicans to “win back” women who are at a healthy level of independent functioning. If the single women who are currently living on government programs would like support in completing their education, finding work, job training, and finding a path to independence, they will need to contact a conservative Republican for help, since the Democrats seem to have little to offer in that area, save taxpayer funding. In fact, under President Obama, joblessness for women increased by 15.5%, a fact Richards and colleagues fail to mention, likely because their hope is for women to remain single and dependent on government — and, of course, Planned Parenthood.
It’s also important to note that, as is the case with most pro-abortion proponents, Richards continues to use terms such as “women’s personal health care decisions,” “women’s preventive health care,” “women’s reproductive health care,” etc., all phrases that have been usurped from the field of medicine and health care for the pro-abortion political agenda. Ironically enough, when discussions about “reproductive health care” come up in most gynecologists’ offices, they are in reference to fertility and how to become pregnant with a baby, rather than how to abort one.
Richards’ condescending reference to pro-life individuals as “extreme fringe” seems out of touch when compared to Planned Parenthood’s continued attempts to lure young girls into premature sexual promiscuity. Its Facebook page, Planned Parenthood’s Info for Teens, contains a “Savage U” MTV video that teaches that it’s okay to be a “slut,” because sluts are “confident in their sexuality.”
Planned Parenthood’s Teen Info Facebook page is also peppered with lots of hints to adolescents that parents may not be the best people to talk to about sex. The organization’s obvious solution for these impressionable young people is that Planned Parenthood can take over when you need them, a response that sums up pretty well what the organization’s method is to increase the number of single women on government support who will repeatedly turn out future Obamas for years to come.
