Polls in the key swing state of Virginia closed less than an hour ago at 7 PM EST.
Turnout was high across the state, with long lines at many voting stations.
It will be at least an hour after the polls closed before significant results are available, but early returns from three areas that President Obama won in 2008 may give us an indication of whether Romney or Obama will win the state’s thirteen electoral college votes.
Henrico County near Richmond, Prince William County in Northern Virginia, and the city of Roanoke in the southwestern part or the state all went for President Obama four years ago. If Romney were to win any of these areas, or cut Obama’s margin dramatically, it would be a good indication of a likely Romney victory in Virginia.
