With all eyes on focused on Governor Romney and President Obama and the toss-up race for the White House, there is another political unknown out there that is just as important. Control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance, and it could be the difference between economic progress or more stagnation and gridlock, courtesy of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).
Removing Reid from power would send a clear signal that Americans are ready for someone else to lead the Senate who cares about our federal budget and reforming Washington’s abysmal spending habits. Reid has cemented himself as perhaps the most undignified Majority Leader in the history of our great republic — at a time when our country needs a Senate leader who cares more about America than petty partisan gutter politics.
The Democrats currently enjoy a 53-47 majority in the U.S. Senate, with two Independents caucusing with them (Lieberman and Sanders). Even with a decent majority to work with, Harry Reid chose to achieve ZERO positive results for job growth over the past two years. He actually made the conscious decision to do nothing. In order to gain control of the Senate and change America’s dire economic outlook, Republicans must pick up at least four seats.
Our PAC, Citizens United Political Victory Fund, whose mission is to seek out and support the best conservatives running for federal office, is currently supporting the conservative candidate in no fewer than fourteen critical Senate races. These are the races that will ultimately decide the fate of Senate control and whether or not America will be put on a sustained road to fiscal discipline for future generations.
Sitting here three days before the election, it appears that Republicans are poised to pick up seats in as many as nine states. Voters in the states of Nebraska (Deb Fischer), North Dakota (Rick Berg), Virginia (George Allen), Ohio (Josh Mandel), Pennsylvania (Tom Smith), Montana (Denny Rehberg), Missouri (Todd Akin), Wisconsin (Tommy Thompson), and Florida (Connie Mack) hold the keys to an economic recovery in America just as much as Governor Romney. Wins in a majority of these nine states, while fighting off challenges in states like Indiana, Massachusetts, and Nevada, is the pathway to make Mitch McConnell (R-KY) the new Senate Majority Leader and the man responsible for finding 60 Senators who are willing to end America’s debt crisis.
I urge everyone to get out and vote on Tuesday, if you haven’t already! If you happen to be a voter in one of the states I mentioned above, and you think Harry Reid has messed up royally, vote these candidates into office. See you at the polls!
