President Barack Obama went to Las Vegas on Wednesday for a campaign event with singer Katy Perry, again ignoring the advice he often gave Americans to not travel to Las Vegas when the country’s economy is not doing well.
Because Obama will not get reelected if he does turnout Democrats in Las Vegas, he has been making frequent trips Sin City, ignoring his advice about not blowing “a bunch of cash in Vegas” when the economy was tough.
Obama traveled to Vegas for fundraisers a day after terrorists murdered U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens in Libya, even though his administration knew within two hours that al-Qaeda had been behind the attacks.
And on Tuesday, Obama capped off the first day of his 48-hour blitz across the nation by going to Vegas again.
Trailing in national polls and on the ropes in battleground states like Nevada, Obama has recently released a booklet he says is a “plan” for his second term. He is pulling “all-nighters” criss-crossing the country, trying to desperately to make up for four years of failed policies.
“We are pulling an all-nighter,” Obama said. “No sleep. And if you’re not gonna sleep, you might as well be in Vegas,” Obama said.
And celebrities like Perry are helping him. Obama traveled to Vegas immediately after he appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.
According to ABC News, Perry wore a “skin-tight, white dress designed as a ballot” (the box next to Obama’s name was filled in on her dress) and “sang a full set of her hits,” urging the crowd to vote early for Obama and promoting Obama’s campaign slogan “forward.”
After the event, Obama, according to reports, also made a surprise stop the Bellagio hotel and urged casino workers and guests to vote early for him.
“I need you guys to go out and vote now. Don’t wait to vote,” Obama added. “You gotta go cash in your chips now.”
Obama is essentially tied with Romney in Nevada and he cannot win the state if he does not run up his margins in Clark County, where Republicans “have made significant gains” over their 2008 performance in early voting.
According to the Republican National Committee, Republicans have cut the advantage Democrats traditionally have in Clark County after the first four days of early voting.
According to raw vote totals the RNC analyzed, Republicans have turned out 14,604 more voters this year than in 2008 as of Wednesday and have cut into their 2008 margin by 12.5 percent while growing their share of the vote every day.
Nevada’s economy has suffered under Obama’s policies — it’s unemployment rate is the third highest in the nation — and yet, Obama had repeatedly urged Americans to avoid Las Vegas, which is dependent upon tourism.
“When times are tough, you tighten your belts,” Obama said in 2010. “You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.”
