Get your free T-Shirt here! Get your free pizza here! But first vote for Obama!
At a polling station for early voting, people working for the Obama campaign set up shop close by and allegedly offered free pizza and t-shirts to students if they took the time to vote. The event took place at Colorado State University.
Colorado state law says campaigners have to be 100 feet from a polling place, but the Colorado GOP stated that Obama workers violated the law. Colorado GOP Chairman Ryan Call said:
“Operatives for the Democratic Party, or for what appears to be the Obama campaign, had set up a table located right outside the Lory Student Center, which is where one of the early vote locations is. They were essentially offering students and passers-by T-shirts and campaign T-shirts with the impression, very clearly, that you had to go vote first, and if you voted, then they would give you free T-shirts and free pizza.”
The Colorado Republican Committee sent a letter to the Larimer County clerk alleging wrongdoing. They had photos showing the apparent violations.
Larimer County Clerk and Recorder Scott Doyle said later that he was able to talk to both sides and the issue was resolved.
