Senate candidate George Allen released a television ad Wednesday criticizing his Democratic opponent Tim Kaine for supporting Obama and his planned defense cuts.
The ad came less than 48 hours after President Obama declared in the third presidential debate that he would continue to shrink the size of the Navy, one of the biggest employers in the state of Virginia.
Decisions in Washington ripple through our communities, harming small businesses like this one. My plan would stop the defense cuts by growing our economy, using our energy resources, and creating jobs.
The defense cuts Tim Kaine supported are threatening over 200,000 Virginia jobs.
Allen’s critique of Kaine’s support for defense cuts, and his association with what’s now seen as a desperate campaign by President Obama, is likely to earn him more votes in the key Tidewater areas of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, where one of the country’s largest naval bases is located.
Recent polls show Mitt Romney up by three over President Obama in Virginia, with the Kaine and Allen race for Senate a dead heat. The President’s gaffe on defense spending is expected to shift votes towards Romney in the presidential race and Allen in the Senate race.
