Since he didn’t find his way out of the country when George W. Bush won the White House in 2000, Alec Baldwin just might like JetBlue Airway’s new contest. The discount airline is offering 2012 seats — that’s 1,600 free round-trip tickets — to foreign destinations to customers whose candidate doesn’t win the presidency in November.
JetBlue spokesperson Allison Steinberg reported that the airline’s Live Free or Fly contest is already a hit. Steinberg says they are “extremely pleased” with the response thus far and says,
“We decided to bring some humor into the election season to both sides of the aisle. We thought Election Protection is the perfect way to encourage people to exercise their right to vote and highlight our 21 beautiful international destinations,” she said in an e-mail to FOX Business.
The JetBlue spokesperson said that the most popular destinations so far are Costa Rica, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, St. Maarten and St. Lucia.
Even if only temporary, a flight out of the country might be welcome news to those frazzled by this close and hard fought election season.
The JetBlue contest requires entrants to fill out a registration form, pick a candidate, and choose a destination. The cut off for entering is 11:59 PM, November 5. Winners will be selected on November 7.
The contest covers only the airfare itself. The free flight does not include taxes, fees or hotel stays.
