According to today’s Columbus Dispatch, both the presidential race between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama and the Senate race between incumbent Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and State Treasurer Josh Mandel are tight in Ohio. Actually, says the Dispatch, those races are “the closest in modern history.” Romney is ahead by just 0.22 percent over Obama; Sherrod Brown is up just 0.87 percent on Mandel. Both races are well within the poll’s 2.1 percent margin of error. In essence, both races are dead heats.
There are still 10 percent of Ohio voters who remain undecided, according to the polls, in the presidential race; 12 percent of voters are undecided in the Senate race. But the signs aren’t good for Obama or Brown. A full 62 percent of Ohioans think that the country is “on the wrong track,” and 55 percent say that Obama’s “performance since taking office has been worse than they hoped.” Brown is a stolid Obama ally.
As we enter the home stretch of the race for Ohio, President Obama and Senator Brown have good reason to be nervous about their jobs.
