Missouri’s incumbent Democrat senator and one of President Obama’s most vocal supporters, Senator Claire McCaskill, is in trouble. The latest Rasmussen poll has her trailing every single one of the Missouri senate Republican primary contenders.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Missouri Voters shows former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman with the widest lead. She’s ahead of McCaskill by 12 points, 51% to 39%. Three percent (3%) like another candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
This latest temperature check was done on June of last month.
McCaskill has faced an increasingly uphill battle for her reelection. Missouri rejected the President’s health care with the Health Care Freedom Act by a devastatingly large margin (76%, 3-1 in every county save the Kansas City and St. Louis cities proper) after she relentlessly campaigned for it. She’s been styling herself a moderate back home while presenting a far left persona in DC: rubber-stamping the President’s big spending, which has led us into a pit of 8.2% unemployment and a quadrupled deficit.
McCaskill is a savvy politician–the best the Missouri Democrats have–but if this stays on trend, that won’t be enough to save her from the voters in November.
