Rep. Jesse Jackson’s office revealed on Wednesday night that the Illinois Democrat is being treated for a “mood disorder,” but the vagueness of this revelation is unlikely to bridge the division among Democrats about what the proper way for Jackson and his office to proceed.
Leading House Democrats continued to disagree, according to The Hill, about how open Jackson should be about the mysterious circumstances surrounding his medical leave of absence.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “said Jackson should disclose his condition only when he’s ready,” while House Democratic Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (R-MD) said Jackson “would be well-advised to advise the constituents of his condition,” according to The Hill.
Earlier this week, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the senior Illinois senator, said Jackson had a duty to disclose to his situation to his constituents. There are more questions than answers regarding Jackson’s condition, but more Democrats than not seem to want those answers sooner rather than later.
