Congressmen Release Statements On Contempt Vote

g

Speaker John Boehner:

“Now I don’t take this matter lightly, and I frankly hoped it would never come to this. The House’s focus is on jobs and on the economy. But no Justice Department is above the law and no Justice Department is above the Constitution, which each of us has sworn an oath to uphold. So I ask the Members of this body to come together and to support this resolution so that we can seek the answers that the Terry family and the American people deserve.”

Representative Paul Gosar:

“Mr.Holder’s actions have shown his contempt for our constitutional rights, our border, Arizonans and all Americans and today Congress did its jobby holding him in contempt.  It is my hope today’s vote to sends astrong message to Attorney General Holder, President Obama and futurebureaucrats that no one is above the law.  After months of stonewalling, excuses and half truths Mr. Holder has run out of time and secondchances.”

“Thepeople of Arizona and throughout the United States and Mexico will beliving with the consequences of Fast and Furious for years to come. Many have rightfully lost confidence in Attorney General Holder. Today’svote further supports my Resolution of No Confidence (H.Res.490) in Mr.Holder which has the support of 114 members of Congress who eachco-sponsored the measure.”

Representative Trey Gowdy:

“This is a sad for those of us who believe in the rule of law.  The same rules should apply to everyone and the chief law enforcement officer has failed to do so.”

“We should not have to settle, compromise, or find any “extraordinary circumstance” on the amount of documents we are entitled to.  We are wrong if we settle for anything less than all the facts.”

“I would prefer the documents and the truth over a vote on contempt for Congress.  The Attorney General has chosen not to do the right thing, so we must.  I want all the truth and will settle for nothing less.”

Oversight Committee Darrell Issa:

“My message to my colleagues and others who have fought for answers: We are still fighting for the truth and accountability – for the family of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, for whistleblowers who have faced retaliation, and for countless victims of Operation Fast and Furious in Mexico. Unless President Obama relents to this bipartisan call for transparency and an end to the cover-up, our fight will move to the courts where we will prevail in getting the documents that the Justice Department and President Obama’s flawed assertion of executive privilege have denied the American people.”

Representative Joe Walsh:

“I do not take this action lightly, and I think it isregretful that it has reached this point,” said Walsh.  “Questions havebeen dodged and left unanswered for way too long.  Attorney GeneralHolder’s lack of cooperation, accountability, and concern in thisinvestigation is unacceptable.  The bottom line is that many lives werelost – on both sides of the border.  Today’s vote brings us one stepcloser to providing answers to Brian Terry’s family and the Americanpeople.”

Representative Sandy Adams:

“For me, seekingjustice for Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s family is extremelypersonal.  I lost my husband in the line of duty while working as adeputy sheriff in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.  My heart breaksfor a family that is seeking justice and answers while mourning the lossof their son.  I am dedicated to getting those answers on behalf of theTerry family, and I am deeply offended that this administration haschosen to turn this into a political issue.  I strongly believe thatPresident Obama and Attorney General Holder are withholding importantinformation from the American people, and I will not stop until we getanswers.”
