Operation Fast & Furious was a program in which the ATF pressured gun shop owners to sell guns to straw purchasers, knowing there was a high probability they’d land in the hands of drug cartels. They made no effort to intercept the weapons. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and three-hundred-plus Mexicans have been murdered and guns have been found at twelve crime scenes across America. There are still at least six hundred guns unaccounted for, jeopardizing the safety of Americans and Mexicans.
But Al Sharpton doesn’t care about the safety and lives of hundreds of Mexicans or Americans. It’s all about protecting Attorney General Eric Holder and Democrats.
Sharpton’s op-ed in The Huffington Post is pathetic. It’s a story of a damsel in distress (Mr. Holder) who must be saved from her wicked stepmother (GOP). It doesn’t help that it’s also filled with errors and lies.
According to Sharpton, Mr. Holder “has been ridiculed, scapegoated and handled as some sort of criminal throughout this ‘investigation'” and can’t believe he is being treated this way, that “despite his esteemed position, he can and would be profiled.” There’s no profiling. He’s the head of the DOJ. Sharpton seems to forget the image of justice. Justice is blind for a reason. She doesn’t care about your race, gender, or age and she certainly doesn’t care if you hold an “esteemed position” in government.
Here are a few noteworthy errors that need correction. Fast & Furious was not started under President Bush. It started in Fall 2009 when President Obama was in office. Also, the DOJ has not turned over 140,000 documents. They gave their own inspector general 80,000 pages and gave the Committee 7,600 pages of mostly blacked out material.
Funny thing is, Sharpton asks where Chairman Issa’s reform was in 2006 and 2007. The Democrats had the majority then. So Sharpton needs to ask his fellow Democrats why they concentrated on steroids in baseball instead of gunwalking operations.
Sharpton did a phone interview with The Hill and repeated the nonsense that this is all about suppressing votes and again tries to convince people he’s not calling the GOP racists.
“I’m not saying that this is because Holder is black, and I’m not calling [Republicans] racists. I’m saying what they’re doing has a racial effect, and that’s what we’re going to talk about [on Tuesday],” Sharpton told The Hill. “The question one would have to raise is: if he is held in contempt, under that cloud, how does he fight for voter rights? This compromises the Justice Department from being able to do a lot of fighting.”
This has everything to do with the the fact that Mr. Holder & President Obama are black and Sharpton is calling the opposition racist. Facts don’t matter when they don’t fit his agenda.
For someone who cares so much about civil rights, Sharpton appears to not care for the civil rights of Agent Terry and over three hundred Mexicans.
