Issa to Holder: Give Us Documents to Postpone Hearing

Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder stating he would postpone the contempt vote if Holder produces the documents before next Wednesday.

According to Matthew Boyle at The Daily Caller, Chairman Issa asserted that these documents would be sufficient to postpone the contempt vote. Chairman Issa also stated that he and Senator Grassley would be willing to meet with Mr. Holder.

Chairman Issa wrote to Holder:

While I do have substantial concerns that these documents may not be sufficient to allow the committee to complete its investigation, delivery of these documents to the committee before the scheduled consideration of contempt at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, would be sufficient to justify the postponement of the proceeding to allow for the review of materials….Senator [Chuck] Grassley and I are also willing to meet with you as soon as Tuesday, June 19, 2012. It would best facilitate a constructive dialogue if the department would produce the documents you have outlined prior to this discussion.

On Thursday Mr. Holder told Chairman Issa he was willing to hand over documents dated after February 4, 2011. The Department of Justice sent a letter to Senator Charles Grassley On February 4, 2011 denying that gunwalking ever took place.  The letter was later proven false.
