The most recent poll of the Nebraska GOP Senate primary, which will be held on Tuesday, shows that the vote is now a two-person race between establishment Republican Jon Bruning and conservative Deb Fischer, who is running for statewide office for the first time and reaching out to the state’s grassroots conservatives.
A new Nebraska poll released today, which Breitbart News has obtained, shows Deb Fischer closing in on Bruning. Bruning leads Fischer by three percentage points, 38 percent to 35 percent, which is within the survey’s margin of error. Don Stenberg is fading at 16 percent, and it seems more likely that a vote for Stenberg would help Bruning.
The poll was conducted by Wenzel Strategies, the same firm whose survey of Indiana voters first found that Mourdock was ahead of Lugar, and commissioned by the independent Ending Spending Fund, a PAC which focuses on supporting fiscally conservative candidates. The survey was conducted on May 13, included 560 respondents, and carries a confidence interval of 95 percent plus a margin of error of +/- 4.12 percentage points.

Fischer was endorsed by groups like She-PAC but started to surge when she was endorsed last week by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Palin’s endorsement, Fischer’s campaign manager Aaron Trost told Breitbart News, would allow Fischer to gain better name recognition among conservatives in Nebraska.
Then this weekend, the Ending Spending Fund ran ads statewide on behalf of Fischer’s candidacy.
“This poll demonstrates that it is a two-way race between Deb Fischer and her opponent, and Deb Fischer clearly has the momentum leading into Tuesday’s vote,” Brian Baker, president of the Ending Spending Fund told Breitbart News. “What you are seeing in this poll is a movement in this country towards electing grassroots, common-sense fiscal conservatives.”
Fischer is also the only GOP Nebraska Senate candidate to sign “The Obamacare Repeal Pledge.” In Indiana’s GOP Senate primary, eventual winner Richard Mourdock signed this pledge while Richard Lugar, who lost, did not.
“Deb Fischer’s decision to take The Repeal Pledge shows voters that, when it comes to health care, she gets it — she understands that ObamaCare’s individual mandate is an unconstitutional government infringement on our constitutional liberties,” said Heather Higgins, President & CEO of Independent Women’s Voice in a statement.
Last week, Trost told Breitbart News that in primary elections, “a lot of voters start paying attention and making decision in the last few weeks, and we organized our campaign around that with a strong grassroots effort.” And this poll shows Fischer still has more room to grow.
According to the survey, “Fischer is yet unknown by 25% of the primary election voters, compared to just 9% who said they don’t know enough about Bruning to have formed an opinion about him.”
The poll also showed that 8 percent of likely voters are undecided and 36 percent are still “somewhat or very open to changing their minds before their vote.”
Last week, Ryan Hecker, the Chief Operating Officer of the conservative group FreedomWorks, which endorsed and supports Stenberg, told Breitbart News that should Stenberg fade, Fischer would be the preferred choice for conservatives over Bruning.
“Deb Fischer is a much better candidate than Jon Bruning,” Hecker told Breitbart News.
