Girl Power Not Evident On Super Committee: WHY?

I believe in girl power. I’ve been a proponent of it long before the ridiculous Power Puff Girls and those sassy Spice Girls made the term part of our vernacular.

I’m of the mind a woman can do anything she puts her mind to – and isn’t limited by the fact that she is a woman.

Don’t get me wrong. I do believe some things are meant to be done by men only – err taking out the trash or mowing the lawn to name a few, but hell- if I wanna do them I’m perfectly capable of it and don’t you doubt it (I really despise taking out the trash. Don’t know why … I just do).

Women can fight in wars. They can die for their country. They can fly planes, build bridges, perform brain surgery and even help build the space shuttle (Sing it with me now: ‘bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan and never ever let you forget you’re a man …’). But apparently, they’re not equipped to be significantly represented on the ‘Super Committee.’

We represent 50.7 percent of the population in the United States. The Democrats, claiming to be progressive, placed only one woman on the 12-person Debt Reduction committee. If the committee, appointed by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, didn’t want to be representative of the American population, it could’ve at least been sensitive to the 93 women serving in Congress. This would’ve required the placement of at least 2 women on the panel. But no.

Reid and Pelosi were too concerned with making sure all minority groups were represented. One African-American Congressman was chosen (According to the Census, 12.6 percent of the population is African American. 44 are in the 112th Congress — or 8.1 percent of the total membership) and one Latino is on the committee (There are 31 Hispanic or Latino members of the 112th Congress, which is 5.7 percent of the total congressional membership. Hispanics and Latinos make up 16.3 percent of the U.S. population.)

What is the significance of this? To me, it’s clear. The democrats care more about the minority vote than they do about the gender vote because they feel they’ve already got it in the bag! The party supporting abortion has made ‘it’s a woman’s right to choose’ their only selling point in collecting and gathering the women’s vote. And it has worked! So why should they actually show progress to a group they feel they already have in their pocket? Obviously, we have our answer. Conservatives have been called the ‘good ole’ boys’ party for as long as I can remember. Not only was this a deliberate ploy to make sure clone-brained leftist women didn’t ever second-guess their loyalty but it was also a way for Democrats to age our movement as something only those who watched the first run of ‘The Dukes of Hazard’ should be a part of. This phrase is another antiquated label placed on forward-thinking individuals who roll with the times, but just happen to believe in values and the integrity of the Constitution of the United States. We’ve allowed our group to be called backwards when it comes to the progress of women and why? Feminism and what it stands for is not what I’m talking about here. I’m discussing the place and purpose of strong women, with drive, passion and goals taking a stand in a movement having their best interests at heart. But have we — as conservatives — stated this or disputed the fact our goal has no preconceived notions about ‘a woman’s place?’ There is no element in what we believe as Conservatives stating that we do not believe a woman is just as capable as a man: A Washington Post poll in the last election showed the Republican party had lost the female vote on the National and state levels by up to a 13-point margin – a vote Republicans held fairly solid in the previous two elections. So why is the Democratic Party – a party whose claim to gender equality is letting women kill their unborn babies – winning the battle when it comes to the female vote? Once again, we haven’t gotten our message out there. Our Founding Fathers themselves, despite living in a time when a woman’s role was confined to the home, didn’t write restrictions on women into our documents. They had the foresight to know times would change and men AND WOMEN would adapt to those changes as needed. These documents allow for progress and growth, making them as relevant today as at their inception. I’d go even further to say we are a party more open to the leadership of women. In fact, we’ve looked to the leadership of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman to not only inspire us, but guide us in how we move forward. We believe a good leader is simply a good leader – regardless of their gender or their race. When Hilary Clinton pursued the nomination, I can remember laughingly telling Democrat friends she wouldn’t make it out of the convention. It honestly never crossed my mind she would occupy the Oval Office – even though I would love to see a woman behind that desk. Why? Because I have long-believed the first female president of this country would be a Conservative. A compassionate, no-nonsense woman who could kick ass when needed, but also show a gentle hand as well. A woman who understands the urgency of the issues at hand but is cool enough to understand her actions have consequences and not take comfort in the fact she has ‘the right to choose’ to make her ‘bad choices’ go away when she’s choosing to end an unborn child’s life. Democrats, if that’s your only empowering hold on the female vote, I urge Conservatives – especially the Conservative women, to not be silent when it comes to telling friends why you believe what you do. We are most definitely the party of empowerment and of spirit and of progress, but progress within the framework of a Constitution that doesn’t limit us in gender, race or innovation. We again, need to get out there and tell anyone who will listen. So let’s do it … for ourselves … and make a difference.

‘Now there was a time … when we used to say … that behind every great man …there has to be a great woman. Well, in these times of change … you know that it is no longer true. … So we’re coming out of the kitchen …’cause there’s something we forgot to say to you.

We know sisters are doing it for themselves. … Standing on their own two feet …Ringing on their own bells. Sisters are doing it for themselves.’
