RE: SEIU Arson, We Didn't Start The Fire

Kari Chisholm is a (self-described) political hack in my home state of Oregon. Chisholm is so bad that even the liberal Willamette Week has called “foul on Democratic media consultant Kari Chisholm, who runs the blog BlueOregon.com, for excessive use of bullshit in his mud-slinging.” Now he has crossed the line and taken to slyly implying in this recent post that Tea Party activists may have been involved in an arson at the offices of SEIU Local 49.

Here is the guilt-by-insinuation:

I checked in today with a spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue, Lt. Alan Oswald. He confirmed that the arson team is investigating the fire as a deliberately-set fire. Other than that, he wasn’t able to discuss any of the details, of course.

I noted for him that there’s a lot of folks asking if there’s a connection between the SEIU arson and the teabagger rally. According to Oswald, “anything and everything is on the table” for the investigators – as it always is – until they’re ready to announce their findings.

It’s pretty scummy to make such an allegation. No one I’ve ever met fighting for the cause of liberty would condone that kind of action, and I’m willing to extrapolate that experience very broadly. I can only hope and assume I will not be proven wrong.

But here’s something interesting. Who might have more cause to show their displeasure with SEIU than small-government activists?

Well, certainly there was more motive for employees targeted by SEIU in slimy “card check” campaigns, for which that specific SEIU local was slapped by the National Labor Relations Board.

Or there was motive for SEIU Local 49’s own employees — whom the union would not allow to form their own workplace bargaining unit through card check. Instead, the union denied its own employees that ostensibly sacred right and — like most employers — demanded an election.

Frankly, there’s nothing in the public record to indicate that there was an arson. If there was, hopefully the authorities will find the culprit. In the meantime, it’s time for the radical Left to stop attacking Tea Party activists in such a shameful manner.
