SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemen’s Shiite rebels, who have taken over large parts of the country and have faced a Saudi-led air assault, now are saying they welcome United Nations-led talks to find a political solution to the conflict.

In a statement Wednesday, the rebels, known as Houthis, say they call for a resumption of dialogue and any efforts under the auspices of the U.N. that lead to a peaceful compromise.

The statement came as thousands of angry Houthi supporters marched in the capital, Sanaa, denouncing what they described as “Saudi-American aggression.”
