SALEM, Ore., Aug. 27 (UPI) —
The man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday an accepted her award on behalf of homeless youth is reportedly wanted by police in Oregon.
Jesse Helt has had a warrant out for his arrest since November 2011 when he violated the terms of his probation, The Oregonian reports. The 22-year-old was reportedly arrested in 2010 and charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass and burglary after breaking into a man’s house alleging the man had sold him bad marijuana.
Helt pleaded guilty to both misdemeanors and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation. The arrest warrant was issued after he violated his probation the following year.
Polk County Director of Community Corrections Martin Silbernagel said Tuesday Helt has repeatedly failed to meet with his probation officer and that officers are looking for him and will arrest him if they find him.
Helt moved to Los Angeles to become a model a few years ago and has been living on the streets since. His mother, Linda Helt, told The Oregonian Monday he was expected to fly home after Cyrus gave him some money.
Sheriff’s detective John Williams payed a visit to Linda’s Salem home Tuesday and told the family he was looking for Helt.
On Sunday, the 22-year-old model hopeful made news all over the nation after stepping up to accept Cyrus’ Video of The Year award for her. The stunt was part of the singer’s efforts to "raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness." The singer complemented Helt’s VMAs act with a video on her Facebook page that explains her plan to aid Hollywood homeless center My Friend’s Place.
