KARLSTAD, Sweden, Nov. 22 (UPI) —
A Swedish man who denied raping a woman was sentenced to jail time after it was discovered he apologized to his victim via Facebook.
The 25-year-old defendant, who said he was innocent for nine months, was convicted and sentenced Thursday after investigators found he had sent apologetic text and Facebook messages to the victim, The Local.se reported.
"I want you to know that I am sincerely sorry and I beg for forgiveness in every way I can," the man wrote the woman on Facebook.
"I feel so bloody rotten," the man wrote in another message.
The court ruled the messages sufficiently proved the man sexually assaulted the woman and sentenced him to six months in prison for rape.
The court also ordered the man to pay $4,525 to the woman, the Varmlands Folkblad newspaper reported.
