ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The Latest on the Miss America pageant.
10:40 p.m.
The Top 10 contestants in the Miss America pageant have been selected. They are:
Miss Florida; Miss Oklahoma, Miss Louisiana, Miss Tennessee, Miss Texas, Miss Alabama, Miss Colorado, Miss South Carolina, Miss Mississippi and Miss Georgia.
The pageant included contestants from all 50 states, The District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
It was the 95th year of the pageant, which began in Atlantic City as a way to extend the summer tourism season.
It also included an apology from pageant chairman Sam Haskell to head judge Vanessa Williams for the pageant’s handling of a nude photo scandal that led to her resignation in 1984.
Sunday marked her first time back at the pageant since the scandal. She has since become a world-famous stage and television actress and vocalist.
The new Miss America will be crowned around 11 p.m. EST.

The executive chairman of the Miss America pageant has apologized to Vanessa Williams for the way the pageant’s predecessors handled a nude photo flap involving her in 1984.
Sam Haskell apologized to Vanessa Williams during Sunday night’s nationally televised Miss America pageant for the way his predecessors handled the controversy involving nude photos of Williams that were published in Penthouse several months after she became the first African-America Miss America.
Williams resigned the title in 1984.
Haskell, who was not involved with the pageant at the time, said, “I want to apologize for anything that was said or done” during the photo scandal.
Williams, who went on to become a famous stage and TV actress, says she “did the best I could” during the scandal.

The Top 15 contestants have been selected in the final night of competition in the 2016 Miss America pageant in Atlantic City.
The preliminary finalists are:
Miss Tennessee; Miss Iowa; Miss West Virginia; Miss South Carolina; Miss Florida; Miss Oklahoma; Miss Virginia; Miss Alabama; Miss Colorado; Miss Louisiana; Miss Texas; Miss Nebraska; Miss Georgia; Miss Mississippi; and Miss Arkansas.
The new Miss America will be crowned shortly before 11 p.m. EST.
