'The Crown': Jonny Lee Miller to play John Major in Season 5

June 25 (UPI) — Jonny Lee Miller has joined the cast of The Crown Season 5.

Netflix confirmed Friday that Miller, 48, will play John Major in the new season. Major served as British prime minister from 1990 to 1997.

Deadline said Season 5 will begin shooting next month with the new cast. The Crown follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II throughout the decades and features new cast members as the characters age.

Season 5 will feature Imelda Staunton as the queen, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana. Dominic West is in talks to play Prince Charles.

Claire Foy played the queen in Seasons 1-2, while Olivia Colman portrayed the role in Seasons 3-4.

Sources said the Season 5 storylines will include Diana’s bombshell Panorama interview on the BBC.

The Crown is created by Peter Morgan. Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Season 5.

Miller is known for the film Trainspotting and for playing Sherlock Holmes on Elementary.
