WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan is accusing liberals and Democrat Hillary Clinton of favoring a government-heavy agenda for elites.

It’s a traditional GOP view that comes as Ryan finds himself under siege from fellow Republicans for his unwillingness to help Donald Trump win.

In prepared remarks slated to be delivered to college Republicans in Wisconsin, Ryan says the left doesn’t just seek a continuation of the last eight years or to further what he calls “the liberal progressive experiment.”

Ryan says the left wants to make that a reality — “an arrogant, condescending and paternalistic reality.”

Ryan has been relatively mum since he privately told House Republicans this week that he wouldn’t campaign or be seen with Trump and would devote himself to maintaining his party’s congressional majority.
