June 14 (UPI) — The Resident Evil saga continues in an all-new 3D animated film titled Resident Evil: Vendetta.
A follow-up to animated films Resident Evil: Degeneration and Resident Evil: Damnation, Vendetta is set between the events of games Resident Evil 6 and the newest entry in the series, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
The film brings together franchise heroes Leon S. Kennedy (Matthew Mercer), Chris Redfield (Kevin Dorman) and Rebecca Chambers (Erin Cahill) as they team up to stop the spread of a deadly zombie virus.
“Chris Redfield enlists the help of government agent Leon S. Kennedy and Professor Rebecca Chambers from Alexander Institute of Biotechnology to stop a death merchant with a vengeance from spreading a deadly virus in New York,” reads the synopsis.
“It brings in three major players in the Resident Evil franchise that haven’t really had much interaction previously,” Mercer said, alongside Cahill, to UPI about the film at E3 Tuesday.
“It’s got a good blend of the over-the-top action that we’ve come to expect from the series,” he continued.
“It’s a great blend of tense scary moments and character driven moments with some really kick [expletive] incredible action scenes,” added Cahill.
Directed by Takanori Tsujimoto and executive producer Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge), Resident Evil: Vendetta arrives on digital platforms June 20 and on Blu-Ray and DVD July 18. The film will also be screened in theaters for one night only on June 19 through Fanthom Events.
“Because it’s one night only it becomes a special event. It becomes a special occasion and everybody in every one of those theaters is going to be a hardcore Resident Evil fan meeting other fans who are as hardcore as they are, so it becomes this amazing community event,” Mercer said.
“It’s such a lovely gift to fans, it’s a celebration. There is something special about getting a group of people together who love something so much,” Cahill added.
