Heavy rain forced the postponement of Monday’s playoff series decider between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians, Major League Baseball confirmed.

A brief statement from MLB said the American League Division Series clash would now take place on Tuesday afternoon at Yankees Stadium.

“Due to the extended inclement weather conditions tonight, tonight’s ALDS Game 5 has been postponed and rescheduled for 4:07 p.m. (ET) tomorrow,” the league said.

The game had been due to start on Monday at 7:07 pm local time (2307 GMT) but steady rain meant play was unable to get under way.

Officials waited until just after 9:30 pm before finally calling off the clash and rescheduling for Tuesday.

The Yankees and Guardians split the first four games. The winner of the best-of-five series will advance to an AL Championship Series against the Houston Astros with a place in the World Series at stake.
