SAN DIEGO (AP) — Colin Rea of the San Diego Padres is pitching a no-hitter through six innings against the New York Mets.
Rea had thrown 76 pitches Thursday night in San Diego. The Padres lead 5-0.
The Padres remain the only big league team without a no-hitter. San Diego played its first game in 1969.
Center fielder Jon Jay helped preserve the no-hit bid with a nice sliding catch on the warning track of a flyball by Curtis Granderson for the final out in the third.
The Mets’ only baserunner has been David Wright, who walked with one out in the first.
The 25-year-old Rea was making his 12th big league start, having made his debut last season. He came in with a 2-1 record.
