EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Sept. 2 (UPI) — Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady fulfilled a promise he made to Odell Beckham Jr. Thursday, after the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 17-9 in its final preseason game.
After the contest, Brady and Beckham met at midfield, where Beckham handed Brady his jersey and signed it for the Patriots quarterback.
Brady, 39, later had his jersey delivered to Beckham.
“I promised him a jersey and forgot,” Brady told ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
“He’s a great young player and I love watching him,” Brady told reporters. “It’s the kind of things you do these days in the NFL.”
Brady surprisingly played the entire first half of the game. He completed 16-of-26 passes for 166 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Brady is suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for his role in DeflateGate.
“I was just talking to him,” Beckham told reporters. “Any time you get a chance to talk to somebody like that, he’s made the playoffs for a very long time. It’s pretty cool. It’s fun to be able to sit out here and watch him. Surprised he’s in, but it’s a fun experience.”
Brady did not play in the Patriots’ previous preseason bout due to an incident with scissors.
“It’s good to be back with the team,” Brady told Pro Football Talk after the accident, which left a cut on the thumb of his throwing hand. “I feel good. I was ready to go, had everything on and was just trying to get something out of my shoe, and the scissors slipped, and it was just a silly accident.”
