CHAPPAQUA, Ala., Nov. 11 (UPI) — A mother who was left “heartbroken” by the results of the United States presidential election ran into Hillary Clinton while hiking with her young daughter.
Margot Gerster took a hike in Chappaqua, New York with her 13-month-old daughter Phoebe and her dog, Piper, feeling dejected about Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump in the presidential election according to NBC News.
“I’ve been feeling so heartbroken since yesterday’s election and decided what better way to relax than take my girls hiking,” Gerster wrote in a Facebook post.
During her hike she spotted former Secretary of State Clinton out walking her dogs along with her husband Bill Clinton, who took a photo of the two women.
“All I wanted to do is hug her,” Gerster told NBC News.
She added that Clinton looked “wonderful” as she enjoyed the “peaceful” hike with her dogs and husband.
“She seemed as well as anybody could be expected after such a crazy, crazy experience,” Gerster told CNN. “She couldn’t have seemed any nicer or, you know, kinder and gracious to me.”
The two women shared in an embrace before going their separate ways, as Gerster later shared the photo on social media as she hoped to “make people smile.”
“It was a very dark day yesterday, I just feel like the fact I ran into Hillary while I was trying to clear my head, was sort of like a hopeful sign,” she said. “I hope the picture brings hope to people who need it.”
