Feb. 8 (UPI) — Louisville has postponed its scheduled men’s basketball game on Wednesday after head coach Chris Mack and several others within the program tested positive for COVID-19, the school said in a news release.

The Cardinals said late Sunday that Mack is “experiencing mild symptoms” of the virus. Mack will continue to communicate with the team virtually, but he will not coach the Cardinals for their game on Saturday at Virginia Tech.

“The [Wednesday] postponement follows additional positive tests, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Louisville men’s basketball program,” the Cardinals said.

The Cardinals beat Georgia Tech on Feb. 1 and were scheduled to host Pittsburgh on Wednesday at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville before the game was postponed.

Louisville travels for a game against Virginia Tech at noon EST on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Assistant coach Dino Gaudio will coach the Cardinals this week at practice and on Saturday.

Siena’s men’s basketball program also announced on Sunday that it has paused team activities due to positive COVID-19 test results. The pause means that the Saints’ next two games, both against Canisius, need to be rescheduled.

The University of Massachusetts also announced Sunday that it has paused all athletic activities because of a “continuing surge in COVID-19 cases” on the Amherst, Mass., campus.

Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas A&M also announced postponed games on Sunday because of positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and quarantines within the Florida and Texas A&M men’s basketball programs.

On Monday, Baylor — one of two undefeated teams remaining in college basketball — announced it was postponing three more games. The decision is in accordance with the Big 12 Conference men’s basketball interruption guidelines.

Baylor previously postponed two games — against TCU this past Saturday and a road game at Oklahoma scheduled for this week. The Bears will now miss their next three matchups: vs. Texas Tech on Feb. 13, at West Virginia on Feb. 15 and vs. West Virginia on Feb. 18.

Baylor moved to 17-0 overall and 9-0 in the Big 12 after beating Texas 83-69 last Tuesday. Following the postponements, the Bears will have only three conference games left on their schedule, although it’s expected the Big 12 will attempt to reschedule the postponed contests.

Also Monday, the men’s basketball game between the Miami Hurricanes and North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, N.C., was postponed about two hours before the scheduled tipoff.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the decision hours after North Carolina’s student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel, posted a Snapchat video that appeared to show UNC players Day’Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot partying without masks on following the Tar Heels’ 91-87 win over Duke on Saturday.

In the short video, Sharpe and Bacot — who combined to score 27 points against Duke — are shown hanging out with several people in a room as music plays in the background.

“The postponement follows a meeting of personnel from both schools, who mutually concluded the game could not move forward today,” the ACC said in a statement Monday.
