Los Angeles (AFP) – The Jacksonville Jaguars have given two fans indefinite stadium bans for their part in sparking a confrontation with Seattle Seahawks players in December, a statement said Thursday.

Seahawks defensive end Quinton Jefferson needed to be restrained from climbing into the stands after the two Jaguars supporters hurled debris at the players on December 10.

Jefferson had just been ejected during a stormy finish to the game, which was won by the Jaguars 30-24.

Team-mate Jarran Reed later said Jefferson had also been subjected to racist abuse.

A statement by investigators said two fans had been positively identified as throwing objects and banned. The identities of two other fans involved were not yet known.

“It was concluded that four individuals threw objects onto the field,” a report into the incident said. “Based on available video evidence, we were able to positively identify two of these individuals. All four individuals had relocated to a seat near the field wall toward the end of the game.”

The Jaguars said the identified fans would be banned until further notice.

“These two individuals have since received notice that due to the severity of the violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, they are banned indefinitely,” the team said in its statement.
