PALM BEACH, Fla., Jan. 9 (UPI) — Former Miami Dolphins fullback Rob Konrad is alive and being treated for hypothermia after swimming nine miles to shore from the spot in the Atlantic Ocean where he fell off his fishing boat late Wednesday night.

According to Konrad, he was trying to reel in a fish while his boat was on auto-pilot when he accidentally fell into the ocean as the boat sped away.

After over 10 hours of swimming, Konrad reached shore where, in just his underwear, the 38-year-old made it to the nearest beachfront mansion and called emergency services. Responders took Konrad to a local hospital where he is currently being treated for hypothermia.

The Coast Guard launched a search for Konrad after he failed to return from his fishing trip, and the former NFL player said he saw their search lights, however they failed to notice him.

Konrad’s boat remains missing.
