June 4 (UPI) — Donnie Yen has been cast in Lionsgate’s upcoming action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4, which once again stars Keanu Reeves in the title role.

Yen will portray an old friend of John Wick in the film who shares a number of the assassin’s enemies.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is being directed by Chad Stahelski, based off a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Reeves is executive producing along with Louise Rosner, while Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Stahelski are producing.

Yen is best known for starring in the the IP Man series of films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan.

“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise. I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role,” Stahelski said in a statement.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2022. The film was originally set to be released in May 2021, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A fifth entry in the series is also planned.
