(AP) Top Dem: Let ambassador testify on Benghazi
WASHINGTON
The top Democrat on the House Oversight panel says retired Ambassador Thomas Pickering made clear in a closed-door deposition that his investigation of last year’s attack in Benghazi, Libya, was thorough.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland said in a statement Tuesday that Pickering, who co-authored the report with retired Adm. Mike Mullen, should be allowed to testify publicly.

Four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed in the assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission last Sept. 11.

Cummings said Pickering’s testimony on Tuesday “put to rest” claims by the panel’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, that the independent review was incomplete.

Republicans have accused the Obama administration of misleading Americans about an act of terrorism during the presidential campaign. Administration officials have said they were relying on the most current information.
