Brady at last hits 1,000-yard rushing milestone

New York (AFP) – Superstar New England quarterback Tom Brady reached yet another milestone Sunday: 1,000 yards rushing in his career.

The Patriots signal-caller — never known for his scrambling ability — hit the plateau on a five-yard scramble in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in Foxboro.

Brady needed 19 years and 265 games to reach the 1,000-yard mark. The most he ever ran for in a season was 110 yards in 2002, and his history of kneel downs at the end of games has cost chances to get to milestone sooner.

“HE DID IT” the Patriots crowed on their Twitter feed after Brady, under pressure in the pocket, shot through and opening to pick up a first down.

Their next post noted that the previous record for games needed for a quarterback to reach 1,000 rushing yards was the 161 of former Giants great Y.A. Tittle — who in fact finished his career with 999.

While Brady has joked recently that he was gunning for the mark that stubbornly remained out of reach, it’s small potatoes compared to the more than 69,000 passing yards he has amassed in a career that includes five Super Bowl titles.
