Beck, Sam Smith and Pharrell Williams win big at the Grammys

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9 (UPI) — Beck’s Morning Phase won the top prize of Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles Sunday night.

It also scored the trophy for Best Rock Album.

Sam Smith was named Best New Artist and his CD In the Lonely Hour earned the honor for Best Pop Vocal Album. His ballad “Stay with Me” won for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Pharrell Williams took home Grammys for Best Music Video and Best Pop Solo Performance for his song “Happy.”

Kendrick Lamar won the awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “i.”

The Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media honor went to Frozen. The animated fairytale’s anthem “Let it Go” earned the trophy for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

LL Cool J hosted the ceremony, which took place at the STAPLES Center and aired on CBS. Among the evening’s performers were Beck, Smith, Williams, Beyonce, Sia, Katy Perry, Kanye West, Rihanna and Paul McCartney, Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, Adam Levine, Miranda Lambert, Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Madonna, Usher, Ariana Grande, and Common and John Legend.
