Nov. 15 (UPI) — Argentinian President Javier Milei praised incoming President Donald Trump and Tesla founder Elon Musk during a gala at the Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on Thursday.

Milei, who has led widespread cuts in the Argentina government spending, congratulated Trump in front of guests as one of the event’s “VIP speakers.”

“The world is a much better place, and the winds of freedom are blowing much stronger,” Milei said, commenting on Trump’s election earlier this month. “[The election was] the greatest political comeback in all of history, defying the political establishment even at the risk to his own life.”

Milei, who is viewed as a right-wing populist back in Argentina, went to praise Musk, who was one of Trump’s strongest and most visible supporters as the founder of Tesla and SpaceX.

“I would like to thank the great Elon Musk for the wonderful job he has been doing to save humanity.”

Milei was expected also to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference Investor Summit on Friday, also at Mar-a-Lago.

The ultimate goal for Milei on his trip is to help at least start plans for a free trade agreement with the United States, something Milei said was not possible until Trump was elected.

“The elected government feels much more comfortable working with me than with other governments, and that has commercial and financial implications,” Milei had said, according to BBC News.
