LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18 (UPI) — Amy Schumer spoke out against former “Inside Amy Schumer” writer Kurt Metzger and his comments about rape, and hinted at the cancellation of the award-winning Comedy Central show.
Metzger had been vocal on social media after the Upright Citizens Brigade banned fellow comedian Aaron Glaser after multiple women accused Glaser of rape.
Metzger posted a series of rants on Facebook that mocked the way the women came forward about the incidents and questioned the use of social media to convict accusers.
“What this powerful man was gonna block you from level two?” Metzger wrote, referring to Glaser’s lack of fame and/or power. “Go to the cops as a group and hold hands it you gotta. Otherwise you are just a typical lynch mob and luckily the guy isn’t black so no one is calling you that. But I will.”
Schumer tweeted on Wednesday she was “saddened and disappointed” in Metzger for his comments.
“I am so saddened and disappointed in Kurt Metzger,” she wrote. “He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions.”
She also tweeted that, despite being credited as such, Metzger is not a writer on her show.
“Kurt does not work for me. He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine,” she said.
As Schumer’s Twitter followers asked if she fired Metzger, she tweeted that the show was no longer being made.
“I didn’t fire Kurt,” she tweeted. “He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore. There are no writers for it.”
Comedy Central has not commented on Schumer’s statement.
Metzger issued an apology for the delivery of his opinions saying he “never intended to antagonize victims or their supporters.”
“I stand by the points I made, but I sincerely apologize for using inflammatory language to make them,” he said.
Glaser, in a since-deleted Facebook post, spoke out against the accusations saying, “Recently, one or more women accused me of sexual misconduct, specifically that I raped them. It might be one woman, it might be two. I do not know who they are, I do not know when they are referring to. However, I know these are serious accusations, and I know they are untrue.”
