WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) — Amy Schumer and new boyfriend Ben Hanisch visited the White House on Tuesday to listen to President Barack Obama’s speech on gun control.
The 34-year-old actress brought Hanish and her siblings Jason and Kim for the event that took place in the East Room. An emotional Obama called for increased background checks and mental health services, citing such tragedies as the Sandy Hook school shooting.
Schumer shared photos of herself with Hanisch and her siblings from the White House on Twitter, writing, “Fam and man at the whitehizzy.” She later responded to speculation about her beau by tweeting a photo of her “new boyfriend” — Obama.
Hanisch appeared to confirm their relationship last week when he shared a photo with Schumer and a sweet message. “Sometimes in life you get extremely lucky, and the smartest, funniest, most beautiful woman comes along when you least expect it. Here’s to what adventures 2016 brings!” he wrote.
Schumer’s visit followed news that she and Jennifer Lawrence have completed their movie script. The 25-year-old Hunger Games star told BBC Radio 6 this week they have “an official first draft” for the comedy, which will see the actresses play sisters.
Schumer became an active gun-control proponent after John Russell Houser killed two people and injured nine others at a showing of her movie Trainwreck in July 2015. She will return for a fourth season of her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer in the spring.
