Nov. 13 (UPI) — Amazon Haul was unveiled Wednesday in beta form, designed to compete with Chinese retailers Temu and Shein on sales of ultra-low price products.
“Amazon Haul offers a wide selection of products-all priced $20 and under-backed by Amazon’s A-to-Z Guarantee, which protects customers when they buy in our store whether they are sold by Amazon or one of our selling partners,” Amazon said in a blog statement. “Amazon Haul is now rolling out in beta and available to U.S. customers when they next update their Amazon Shopping app.”
Dharmesh Mehta, vice president of Worldwide Selling Partner Services at Amazon, said in a statement, “Finding great products at very low prices is important to customers, and we continue to explore ways that we can work with our selling partners so they can offer products at ultra-low prices.”
GlobalData managing director Neil Saunders said, “Amazon Haul is a response to both the rise of low-price Chinese marketplaces and the fact that consumers are increasingly seeking value for money as they try to make their budgets stretch further.
Amazon Haul will strive for the lowest possible prices and delivery time will be longer than buying from the regular Amazon site because the products sold on the new site are shipped directly from overseas.
Amazon is making this move in the face of the new Republican administration in January vow to impose heavy tariffs on Chinese-made products.
The European Union has launched consumer protection investigations into the Chinese retailers Temu and Shein.
According to Appfigures, Temu is the most popular app among U.S. users 18-24.
Saunders said Amazon Haul poses some risk of cannibalizing Amazon sales, he said it’s better than allowing rivals to take away Amazon market share in retail.
