President Donald Trump appears to have struck a nerve with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who called America’s commander-in-chief a “brute” and said on Wednesday he does not want to “waste time on answering the rants and whoppers” of the leader of the free world.
“I don’t want to waste time on answering the rants and whoppers of the brute US president,” Khamenei said in response to Trump’s refusal to certify the Iran nuclear deal to Congress on Friday, according to Kurdistan24 News. He reportedly added that he would “shred” the JCPOA “to bits” if the U.S. decertifies the deal.
Although the United States is still in the agreement, Congress now has 60 days to decide whether to activate a snapback and reimpose economic sanctions on Iran that were lifted by the Obama administration.
President Trump recently authorized the Treasury Department to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. IRGC Commander Mohammad Ali Jafar reportedly responded by threatening America.
“If the news is correct about the stupidity of the American government in considering the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist group, then the Revolutionary Guards will consider the American army to be like the Islamic State (IS) all around the world,” Jafar said.
On Monday, Chairman of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said, “U.S. behavior” triggers the extreme, belligerent behavior of North Korea, as America is “not trustworthy.”
Boroujerdi reportedly said, “The US president showed by his remarks again that the US government is not trustworthy and the US behavior towards the nuclear deal persuades views of countries like North Korea.”
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz said he supports President Trump’s firm policy towards Iran. Saudi Arabia, a Sunni-majority nation, is at odds with Iran, a Shiite-majority country whose true roots are Zoroastrian.
