UNITED NATIONS–Jeffrey Sachs, economist and senior adviser to U.N. Secretary General António Guterres, called President Trump a “sociopath” for repealing DACA this week, the latest anti-Trump remark he has made this year.
“Trump is a sociopath. Period,” he said Tuesday.
Sachs, who has served as an adviser to multiple Secretaries General since 2002, made the remarks on Twitter, commenting on Trump’s decision Tuesday to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which granted amnesty to some illegal immigrants who were brought to the country as children.
A spokesman for Guterres told Breitbart News that the secretary-general does not agree with Sachs’ view.
“Mr. Sachs is an adviser concerning the Sustainable Development Goals and does not speak for the UN in any other capacity,” spokesman Farhan Haq said.
It is not the first controversial comment that Sachs has made about Trump. In June, he accused President Trump of living in a “dream world” and being an “idiot” for his decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord. He also blamed the decision on the Koch Brothers.
“The president doesn’t know what he’s doing, this is obvious he’s an idiot,” he said. “But what’s happening behind here is real politics. This is the victory paid and carried out for 20 years by two people: David and Charles Koch.”
In April, he wrote a column titled, “Donald Trump’s Climate Fantasies.”
“In less than 100 days, we have learned that Trump is a man living in a fantasy world. He issues decrees, barks orders, sends out midnight Tweets, but to no avail. The facts—real ones, not his ‘alternative’ variety—keep intervening,” Sachs wrote. He has also called Trump a “non-stop font of lies” in a column in March.
Trump is scheduled to speak at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City later this month, where he is expected to call for wide-ranging reforms to the international body.
Guterres himself has disagreed with Trump over his decision to leave the Paris climate agreement and also the travel ban, but has mostly been restrained in his language—and often avoids criticizing Trump by name.
