Megyn Kelly and Catherine Herridge of Fox News appear to have the story of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen’s mysterious phone conversation all to themselves at the moment, which is odd because it is an intriguing and ominous lead.

As Herridge explained in her report, the FBI has been reviewing a number of recordings made by people inside the Pulse nightclub during the attack, using their smartphones. In one of the audio captures, Omar Mateen “appears to be having a conversation about the attack, and he was not talking to 911.”

Herridge said Fox News’s source inside the investigation described this audio as “the kind of conversation you would have with someone who is familiar with what was going on.”

Government officials would not comment to Fox on the record, except to say that the FBI “is not actively pursuing co-conspirators, but that could change, based on the evidence.”

Herridge also provided footage of her hilarious exchange with embattled Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who delivered some boilerplate language about how the Obama administration seeks transparency in all things, and then she refused to say who made the decision to edit the transcript of Mateen’s 911 call to remove references to ISIS and its leadership.

According to Fox News, government officials are admitting privately that the decision to edit the 911 calls was such a disaster that they had to reverse themselves and release the “unedited” transcript. In truth, it is still edited but more gracefully, including the careful replacement of references to “Allah” with “God.”
