The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has demanded that federal agents pursue a full investigation after a Las Vegas mosque reported finding bacon on its door Tuesday morning.
In a press release titled “CAIR Seeks Hate Crime Probe of Nevada Mosque Desecration,” CAIR called for “a state and federal hate crime investigation of the desecration” of the Nevada mosque.
It noted that “raw bacon was wrapped on the door handles of Masjid-e-Tawheed in Las Vegas.”
“This type of attempted desecration must be investigated as an act of intimidation and hate, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Practicing Muslims are forbidden from consuming pork, and “bigots often use pigs or pork to offend Muslim sensibilities,” the press release added.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that neither state nor federal agents have been called in to investigate the incident, but local news network KTNV said the FBI is now investigating.
A founder of the mosque called the event a “deliberate attack” against Islam as a whole, according to the report.
“There are still people out there who love to hate, unfortunately, so this was one of the sad incidents and it’s unfortunate,” Rokai Yusufzai told KTNV.
The report stated that a man was caught on video wrapping bacon around the doors of the mosque.
In the past, CAIR has called for the FBI to investigate apparent damage to a mosque’s air conditioning unit, as well as requested federal agents after purported spray paint vandalism against a Kentucky mosque.
According to FBI documents, CAIR is an organization with ties to Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group. Nihad Awad, the group’s current executive director, was formerly part of a Muslim Brotherhood outfit that FBI testimony said was “established to support Hamas.”
In 2007, CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorism financing case in American history, with agents claiming CAIR is a “front group for Hamas” and was involved in a “conspiracy to support Hamas.”
The group is funded largely by Saudi citizens, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently listed it as a terrorist organization.
