On Monday, Air France Flight 83, bound from San Francisco to Paris, was diverted to Montreal, but the reason for the unscheduled stop has not been made public.
The flight left San Francisco at 3 p.m. and landed at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, where police inspected the aircraft. Canadian media reported that passengers were transported in buses away from the plane, according to the San Jose Mercury News. CNN reported that 231 passengers and 15 crew members were on board,
An employee at CTV News in Toronto tweeted that an “anonymous threat” had prompted the impromptu landing. A passenger tweeted pictures of other passengers looking tranquil after the plane landed in Montreal. By late Monday, San Francisco International Airport officials said they had no information to divulge.
Early Tuesday morning, Air France tweeted that the situation was a false alarm.
In mid-November, two Air France flights from the United States to Paris were diverted because of bomb threats; both turned out to be false alarms. One flight was from Los Angeles to Paris and diverted to Salt Lake City; the other was from Washington D.C. to Paris and was diverted to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
