At a ceremony marking the birthday of Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, current PM Benjamin Netanyahu blasted international double-standards for Israel when the Jewish State is forced to combat jihadi terror.
“It’s one thing that they blame us, rather than the terrorists, for the terror against us, but the greater absurd is that we are being blamed for the terror against the French – or such was the impression from the comments made by Sweden’s foreign minister this week,” Netanyahu said.
Earlier in the week, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said that Islamic terror in Europe is due to the “desperate situation” of Palestinians. Although the Paris attacks were carried out by non-Palestinians, Wallstrom insisted that the Palestinian issue is the reason for Muslim radicalization.
In his speech, Netanyahu described Wallstrom’s comments as “blindness.”
Like Ben-Gurion, who declared the Jewish State under the threat of extermination by other countries in the region, “we want peace,” Netanyahu said. “We want to return our sword to its scabbard. But when our choice is between living by the sword or living with an Islamist sword at our neck – we choose the first option.”
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin also delivered remarks, discussing how Ben-Gurion made the dream of a Jewish sovereign state come to fruition.
“All around us we see states without a people, without a nation, states that are collapsing within themselves, states without any sense of direction, states that have lost their ethos and their common language,” Rivlin commented. “Today we can honestly say that the State [of Israel] uplifted the people, and the people built the state. We have been privileged to have a national homeland for the Jewish people and at the same time to be a member of the developed countries of the world.”
On Thursday, Israel was struck with another series of Palestinian terrorist attacks, resulting in the deaths of five people. The attacks occurred in Israel’s beachside city of Tel Aviv, which is known as the most technologically-sophisticated and progressive city in the Middle East.
The Palestinian jihadi stabbed innocents outside of a synagogue, Breitbart Jerusalem reports.
That attack was followed by a shooting and a Palestinian ramming his car into innocent bystanders, leaving three dead and four wounded.
