An eight-story building in New York City collapsed on Friday, killing at least one person.
The building is located at 25 W. 38th St., between Fifth and Sixth Aves., in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The collapse happened at 10:30AM.
A construction crew was working on the building at the time.
The city granted permission for a contractor to demolish the building, but reports indicate “there were no recent work violations.” The contract for demolishing the building, Sky News reports, calls for it to be replaced by a new 27-story hotel called the Aloft New York Midtown Hotel.
